First Aid Awareness

Definition: First aid is the immediate assistance given to any person suffering from either a minor or serious illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery until professional medical help is available.

Purpose:

  • Preserve Life: The primary aim of first aid is to save lives. This involves taking immediate action to address life-threatening conditions such as cardiac arrest, severe bleeding, or choking.
  • Prevent Deterioration: First aid can prevent an injured person’s condition from worsening. This includes actions like immobilizing broken bones, applying pressure to wounds, and positioning an unconscious person to maintain an open airway.
  • Promote Recovery: First aid can aid recovery by providing initial treatment for injuries and illnesses, such as cleaning and dressing wounds or reassuring the injured person to reduce panic and shock.
